Akal Takht Labels Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann as ‘Guru Betrayer’ Amid Controversial Video Findings

Akal Takht Labels Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann as 'Guru Betrayer' Amid Controversial Video Findings

The Akal Takht, the supreme authority within the Sikh community, has made a significant declaration against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, labeling him a “Guru Dokhi”—which translates to ‘betrayer of the Guru’—and branding him as an “anti-Khalsa Panth” or opponent of the Sikh faith. This announcement came following the examination of two contentious videos allegedly associated with Mann, concluding that they were authentic and not products of artificial intelligence manipulation.

The decision was announced by Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj after a meeting of the five high priests at the Akal Takht in Amritsar. The body, regarded as the highest temporal seat of authority for Sikhs, stated that forensic tests conducted by recognized laboratories confirmed the authenticity of the videos circulating online. According to reports, these labs found no evidence of tampering, contradicting claims that the videos had been digitally altered.

Jathedar Gargajj emphasized the significance of the findings, stating, “Ultimately, the conclusion from both labs is that this video is authentic.” He described the footage as appearing entirely natural, resembling a genuine interaction. The jathedar also revealed that the Akal Takht had contacted Mann earlier in January after he expressed his willingness to undergo a forensic examination of the clips, but received no further response from him.

In a statement, Gargajj remarked on the stature of the chief minister’s role, insisting that while the position demands respect, it does not grant the liberty to deceive. The gravity of this situation has sparked a wave of discussions across Punjab and among the Sikh diaspora, as it touches upon the sensitive relationship between politics and religious sentiments within the community.

This incident underscores the ongoing tensions in Punjab’s political landscape, where religious sentiments often intertwine with governance. Many members of the Sikh community view the integrity of their leaders and the sacredness of their beliefs as paramount. As the controversy unfolds, it is expected that both supporters and critics of Mann will mobilize, further intensifying the discourse surrounding the video’s implications for his political career.
