Taking cognizance of media and social media reports, Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, chaired a high-level review meeting in New Delhi today to assess the quality and maintenance progress of 3,245 km of National Highways across Jharkhand. The review, attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, NHAI, and representatives of project contractors, focused on expediting ongoing works and resolving implementation bottlenecks.
The Minister stressed strict adherence to timelines and the highest quality standards, directing agencies to adopt advanced construction technologies and sustainable engineering practices. He said the highway network is critical to strengthening inter-state connectivity, reducing logistics costs, boosting industrial growth in Jharkhand’s mineral-rich corridors, and enhancing commuter convenience and safety.
With the monsoon approaching, Gadkari issued specific instructions for comprehensive monsoon preparedness. This includes preventive maintenance of vulnerable stretches, swift water drainage systems, landslide mitigation measures, and 24/7 response teams to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and road safety.
He reiterated that accountability will be fixed for delays or substandard work, and that the development of resilient, efficient highways remains central to driving economic growth and long-term infrastructure durability in the region.
