China Admits to Ground Support for Pakistan During 2025 Operation Sindoor Conflict

In a surprising revelation, China has confirmed for the first time that it provided crucial technical support to Pakistan during the intense military conflict with India in May 2025. This disclosure came during an interview with Zhang Heng, an engineer from the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, aired by the state-run CCTV on Thursday, according to the South China Morning Post.

Zhang detailed his experiences while collaborating with Pakistani forces during the four-day confrontation, which has since been referred to as Operation Sindoor. His team was stationed at a support base where the atmosphere was fraught with the sounds of fighter jets taking off and the relentless wails of air-raid sirens. “By late morning, the temperature was already approaching 50 degrees Celsius [122 degrees Fahrenheit]. It was a real ordeal for us, both mentally and physically,” Zhang shared, highlighting the extreme conditions under which they operated.

The conflict was sparked by a series of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, reaching a boiling point on April 22, 2025, when a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam claimed 26 lives. In retaliation, the Indian military executed airstrikes targeting what they described as terrorist camps located within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This decisive military operation aimed to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure that had been a constant source of instability in the region.

The acknowledgment from China comes as a significant development in the geopolitical landscape of South Asia, where alliances and enmities play a crucial role in shaping military strategies. Zhang expressed that the motivation for his team was to ensure that Chinese military equipment could perform to its fullest potential. This emphasis on operational readiness illustrates the deepening military ties between China and Pakistan, especially in the face of Indian military advancements.

As the dust settles from the conflict, the implications of China’s support for Pakistan could reverberate throughout the region. India’s response to China’s involvement will likely impact its future military and diplomatic strategies, as New Delhi seeks to counteract Beijing’s growing influence in South Asia. The acknowledgment raises critical questions about the balance of power and the shifting dynamics of military alliances in an already volatile region.
