Enforcement Directorate Links AAP Punjab Chief to Land Scam Investigation

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has made significant allegations regarding a land scam and money laundering case that has surfaced in Punjab, implicating the state’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief, Aman Arora. Reports from The Indian Express indicate that the ED has identified a close associate of Arora as a key figure in this ongoing investigation.

On Thursday, the ED conducted extensive raids at multiple sites across Chandigarh and Mohali as part of its efforts to uncover the truth behind these allegations. Among those targeted was Gaurav Dhir, a builder from Dhir Constructions, who has been described as a “close associate” of Arora, who also holds a ministerial position within the Punjab government.

These searches were part of a broader investigation into the Suntec City project, an initiative developed by the Indian Cooperative Housing Building Society. The agency’s inquiries also extended to Ajay Sehgal, the promoter of the project, as well as other related entities, including ABS Townships and Altus Space Builders. The ED is reportedly operating under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, indicating the seriousness of the allegations.

The central agency’s investigation has unveiled claims that the two real estate firms involved fraudulently secured Change of Land Use (CLU) permissions, exploiting loopholes for illicit gain. In a particularly alarming revelation, the ED alleged that Gaurav Dhir, via his company Suncity Projects, acquired a project from Altus Space Builders for a staggering Rs 130 crore, which the agency claims was undervalued by over Rs 170 crore. This maneuver is believed to have been orchestrated to facilitate a money laundering operation.

Additionally, the ED has named two alleged middlemen in this case, Nitin Gohal and Pritpal Singh Dhindsa, who are accused of helping to secure what the agency has termed “political patronage” for these fraudulent activities. As the investigation unfolds, the implications could resonate deeply within Punjab’s political landscape, particularly for the AAP as it grapples with these serious allegations against one of its state leaders.

As the situation develops, political analysts and the public alike will be closely monitoring how the AAP responds to these charges and what measures the party will undertake to protect its image and maintain public trust. The ED’s findings could have far-reaching consequences not only for those implicated but also for the ruling party’s standing in Punjab, where real estate scandals have often stirred public outrage.
