India Ranks 127th In Global Peace Index

Sydney, Australia, June 13, Unrest prevails across the globe, and peace has declined in our country as well. India has secured the 127th position in the latest Global Peace Index (GPI) released by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). Having ranked 115th last year, the country has slipped 12 places this year. Factors contributing to this decline include increased fatalities due to internal conflicts and strained relations with neighboring countries. Over the past year, tensions along the Pakistan border and instability along the Myanmar border have escalated. The violence stemming from the conflict between two communities in Manipur has also impacted India’s ranking. Rankings were released for 163 countries this year. According to the GPI, Iceland, New Zealand, and Switzerland hold the top three spots among the world’s most peaceful nations. Elsewhere in the list, Nepal ranks 111th, Bangladesh 117th, and Pakistan 152nd
