In a significant political move, K Kavitha, the former leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), officially launched her new party, the Telangana Rashtra Sena, on Saturday. This announcement marks a pivotal moment in her political journey, coming just months after her resignation from BRS and her subsequent exit from the Telangana Legislative Council on September 3. Her resignation followed her suspension by her father, K Chandrashekar Rao, the party’s chief, amid allegations of anti-party activities.
The newly formed Telangana Rashtra Sena borrows its name from BRS’s earlier incarnation, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, which was instrumental in the state’s separate statehood movement. Kavitha had previously hinted at her political ambitions in January when she stated that her organization, Telangana Jagruthi, founded in 2006, would transition into a political party to actively participate in the upcoming Assembly elections, expected to be held in 2028 or 2029.
During the launch event held on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Kavitha did not hold back in her criticism of the current ruling parties, including the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and her former party, the BRS. She accused them of widespread corruption, nepotism, and perpetuating a culture of “family rule”. According to reports from The New Indian Express, she stated that the political landscape of Telangana has deteriorated, asserting that the KCR (K Chandrashekar Rao) of today is not the leader who once fervently fought for the state’s autonomy.
Kavitha’s return to the political arena with the Telangana Rashtra Sena is poised to reshape the dynamics of Telangana politics. She emphasized the need for a fresh political narrative that resonates with the aspirations of the people. Her statement reflects a growing discontent among sections of the electorate who feel let down by the promises made during the earlier phases of the Telangana movement. As she embarks on this new chapter, the challenge will be to galvanize support and distinguish her party’s vision from the established political entities.
As Telangana heads towards its next elections, Kavitha aims to leverage her established presence in the region alongside her years of advocacy for Telangana’s identity. With her party positioned against established political players, the upcoming electoral battle is bound to be closely watched by political analysts and citizens alike.
