19 April 2026

A cultural museum was formally inaugurated on 18 April at Komargaon in Golaghat district with the objective of preserving and promoting Assam’s art, culture, and ancient traditions for the younger generation.

The museum, named “Ilandona”, has been established at the residence of Suren Gogoi, a retired teacher from Bashapathar, Komargaon under Bokakhat subdivision. The inauguration ceremony was conducted in a simple and formal manner by Purnakanta Baruah, President of the Komargaon Regional Sahitya Sabha. Several local dignitaries and cultural representatives attended the event, following which the museum was opened to the public.

On this occasion, the Komargaon Regional Journalists’ Association along with the web portal “Ajir Kantha” felicitated Suren Gogoi for his long-standing efforts in collecting and preserving rare Assamese cultural artifacts.

It is reported that Gogoi has travelled extensively across various parts of Northeast India over the years, collecting historical and traditional items despite several challenges. He stated that in the present modern era, younger generations are gradually becoming disconnected from their cultural roots, and the museum has been created to help reconnect them with Assam’s heritage.

Gogoi, who is also known for his involvement in theatre direction and acting, has undertaken this initiative independently, which has drawn appreciation from local cultural circles. The museum is expected to contribute to cultural awareness and may also support future research and cultural tourism in the region.

During the event, artist Shyam Baruah paid tribute to cultural icon Zubeen Garg through a portrait presentation. Retired teacher Minati Gogoi also offered homage to the parents of Suren Gogoi during the ceremony.
