New Delhi, June 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the understanding reached between the United States and Iran aimed at ending recent hostilities in West Asia. He expressed hope that the agreement would contribute to regional peace and stability and help ensure freedom of navigation and commerce in the region.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said that the conflict in West Asia had resulted in loss of life and caused significant economic disruption across the world. He expressed optimism that the implementation of the understanding would help de-escalate tensions and create conditions for a lasting resolution.
Modi also said that India looks forward to further discussions on the remaining issues leading to a sustainable final agreement.
The development comes after US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement had been reached between the United States and Iran to halt hostilities. According to international reports, the understanding includes steps toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route for global oil shipments.
Following the announcement, international oil markets witnessed a decline in prices amid expectations of reduced geopolitical tensions and improved energy supply stability.
