SAHARSA (Bihar), September 19 — The district general secretary of the
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), 26-year-old Abhijeet Singh Rajput, also
known as Raja, was found dead inside his locked residence in the Gautam Nagar
area of Saharsa on Friday, in what police say appears to be a case of murder.
Officers believe the killing took place on Wednesday, two days before the body was
discovered. Rajput, a native of Garhbaruari village in neighbouring Supaul district, had
been living alone at his house in Gautam Nagar, within the jurisdiction of the Sadar
police station.
According to BJYM district president Surjit Singh Kushwaha, Rajput had stopped
answering phone calls for two days before his death was discovered. Concerned by the
silence, a friend went to the house on Friday afternoon. Getting no response at the door,
he looked in through a window and saw Rajput lying motionless inside. Police were
alerted and forced open the main door, where they recovered the body.
Saharsa Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pankaj Kumar Singh said preliminary
findings indicate Rajput had attended a gathering at an acquaintance's home on
Wednesday evening, shortly before he is believed to have died. Local residents said the
body bore an injury to the head, though police have not officially confirmed further
details pending the post-mortem report.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called to the scene to collect
evidence, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination to establish the exact
cause and timeline of death. Investigators say they are examining multiple angles,
including Rajput's past record — he reportedly had prior cases registered against him —
as they work to identify and arrest those responsible.
Rajput's family said he had already suffered significant loss in recent years: his father, an
engineer, died of cancer in 2018, and his mother passed away in 2017. He is survived by
a younger brother, who is in Delhi preparing for the UPSC civil services examination.
Rajput's uncle, Avadhesh Kumar Singh, said the family was shocked by the killing and
has demanded a fair, impartial investigation along with the swift arrest of those
responsible.
Police said the probe is ongoing and that further details are expected once the post-
mortem and forensic reports are available.
