Third Flood Wave in Baitarani River, Old Ghat Washed Away; Man Missing in Floodwaters

Mangalpur, Jajpur, 09/08/2026: The third round of flooding in the Baitarani River has led to a rise in water levels, with one of the two old ghats along the Kani River, a branch of the Baitarani, reportedly being washed away.

Meanwhile, Maheshwar Sutar (55), a resident of Patna village under Kaspa Gram Panchayat in Dasharathpur Block, has reportedly gone missing after being swept away by the floodwaters.

According to local residents, Maheshwar had gone towards the river area on Sunday morning after floodwater entered his house. He was reportedly swept away by the strong current. Residents who witnessed the incident informed the ODRAF and Fire Services teams, following which a search operation was launched.

Despite efforts to locate him, Maheshwar could not be found and remains missing. Search operations are continuing in the area.

Maheshwar is reportedly a daily-wage worker and farmer who supports his wife, Zuletta Sutar, and their four daughters. His family is dependent on his income for their livelihood.

Local residents have appealed to the administration to intensify the search operation and provide necessary financial assistance and support to Maheshwar's family.

Authorities have also urged residents to exercise extreme caution near flooded rivers and waterlogged areas and to follow official safety instructions during the ongoing flood situation.
