If students admitted in the new academic year are subjected to physical, mental or abusive treatment by their old students through ragging, ragging is a serious crime. Students should be aware that the Supreme Court has completely banned this. Also, a guidance program was organized at SND Polytechnic to create awareness about the POCSO Act to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse. On this occasion, Police Inspector Sandeep Mandlik of Yeola Police Station and Police Inspector Ankita Baviskar were present as the main guides. The program began with the community singing of the National Anthem and Maharashtra Anthem by performing Saraswati Puja by the dignitaries present. The dignitaries present were honored by Dr. Uttam Jadhav, Principal of SND Polytechnic. Police Inspector Sandeep Mandlik said that in various places like schools, colleges, hostels, new students are harassed by old students, due to which some inappropriate things happen due to fear from new students and their lives are damaged. In India, ragging is a serious crime in which a student who is ragging can be expelled from the college and can be punished by taking legal action against him, so students should not get involved in it. He also gave detailed information about the POCSO Act related to sexual exploitation and abuse, its main provisions, child rights, protection from abuse, as well as the process of filing a complaint and the punishment provided if a complaint is filed. He appealed to contact the relevant mechanism if suspicious behavior is found. Police Inspector Ankita Baviskar guided children about safe and unsafe touch, dangers of online media and how to protect themselves from them. While pursuing college education, physical and mental changes can create attraction in children, which is why suspicious incidents occur and harm children. Children should stay away from this and focus on their goals and achieve success. Also, if any kind of misconduct is found in the college premises, they should contact the Grievance Redressal Committee and the Ranging Prevention Committee under the college, said Principal Dr. Uttam Jadhav. At the end of the program, a pledge was taken to create a safe and healthy environment. All the heads of departments, teachers and students were present for the program in large numbers.
