India Must Emerge As A Global Leader In The Technology Sector, : Prime Minister Narendra Modi

New Delhi, October 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon India to embrace emerging technologies, encourage innovation, and take a leading role in developing the technologies of the future. He said India has progressed from adopting technologies developed elsewhere to creating indigenous solutions that can address global challenges.

On Tuesday, October 27, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave 2026 (ESTIC 2026) at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Addressing the gathering, he expressed his vision of positioning India as a global leader in science and technology. He also praised the ideas, confidence, and ambitions of young Indian innovators, describing their approach as encouraging for the country's scientific future.

Reflecting on India's scientific journey, Modi observed that the country had previously focused largely on adopting technological developments from other nations. He said India is now increasingly working towards developing its own technologies and creating solutions to address global challenges.

The Prime Minister highlighted India's achievements in space exploration, including the Mars Orbiter Mission, which reached Mars on its first attempt, and Chandrayaan-3, which achieved a historic landing near the Moon's south polar region. He also referred to India's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, when the country developed indigenous vaccines, conducted a large-scale vaccination programme, and supplied vaccines to other nations.

Emphasising the importance of innovation, Modi said India's ambition should extend beyond adopting existing technologies. He encouraged scientists, researchers, and young innovators to develop new technologies that strengthen the country's capabilities and contribute to solving problems faced by the world.

Union Minister for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh also participated in the conclave. He highlighted the transformation in India's science and technology ecosystem, noting the country's growing contribution to global innovation through research, technological development, and indigenous solutions.

ESTIC 2026 is being held from October 27 to 29 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The conclave brings together scientists, researchers, policymakers, industry representatives, startups, and international experts to discuss emerging technologies and India's science, technology, and innovation priorities.
