Kanchrapara Workshop Drama Team Secures Second Place in Eastern Railway Inter-Divisional Cultural Competition
Asansol, August 21, 2026: The Kanchrapara Workshop Drama Team secured second place in the final round of the Inter-Divisional Cultural Competition organised by Eastern Railway at the Vivekananda Institute, Asansol, formerly known as Durand Hall.
The team presented the play “Mahabharat Ka Gada Yuddha”, which received an enthusiastic response from the audience. The performance kept spectators engaged and entertained throughout the presentation.
Nitesh Kumar delivered a notable performance as Bhima, while Rahul Ghosh impressed the audience with his portrayal of Duryodhana. Rahul Ghosh was also awarded the Best Actor prize for his performance. Shashwati Sarkar attracted attention for her role as Kamli.
Other members of the cast included Bikash Kumar, Deblisha Mallick, Aktarul Mondal, Bikash Mahanti, Radhamohan Sahu and Naowuddin Khan.
The production was appreciated for its performances and overall presentation. Although the team narrowly missed the top position, its strong showing in the competition has been seen as an encouraging achievement for the entire troupe.
The team also received appreciation for successfully balancing departmental responsibilities with preparation for the cultural competition. Nitesh Kumar was responsible for the overall direction of the play, and the panel of judges extended special appreciation to him for his contribution.
Krishna Sarkar served as the team manager for this year's departmental production and supported the team throughout the preparation and performance process.
The team members have expressed their determination to continue working together and aim to take the troupe to the national level in future competitions.
