Kolkata Gets Decked Up for India’s 80th Independence Day Celebration
Kolkata is getting ready to celebrate India’s 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, with the city embracing the spirit of patriotism and national pride. As the historic occasion approaches, several parts of Kolkata are being decorated and illuminated in the colours of the Indian Tricolour.
The iconic Victoria Memorial remains one of the most prominent symbols of Kolkata and is beautifully highlighted during national celebrations. The sight of heritage landmarks illuminated in saffron, white and green creates a powerful atmosphere of unity and pride.
This year’s celebrations are also receiving added momentum through the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative. West Bengal is set to distribute around 70 lakh national flags across the state, while a large Tricolour rally is scheduled in Kolkata on August 10. �
