'Korean Kanakaraju' Movie Review: Varun Tej and Satya deliver entertaining moments in horror-comedy

Visakhapatnam, August 7, 2026: IPU Media Update – Movie News: 'Korean Kanakaraju' is a horror-comedy starring Varun Tej. Directed by Merlapaka Gandhi, the film features Rithika Nayak as the female lead, with comedian Satya in a key role. The movie is produced by UV Creations and First Frame Entertainments, with music composed by Thaman.

Story: Kanakaraju (Varun Tej) hails from Penugonda in Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh. His friend Kishtappa (Satya) runs a photo studio. Kanakaraju falls in love with Chaitra (Rithika Nayak), who dreams of marrying a Korean man and settling in Korea.

Kanakaraju's life takes an unexpected turn when a Korean spirit enters his body following an altercation at a bar. The spirit reveals that it was a businessman and wants to travel to Korea to meet its wife and children. Kanakaraju, Kishtappa and Chaitra subsequently travel to Korea, where they discover more details about the spirit's past.

Kishtappa's father warns that if the spirit does not leave Kanakaraju's body within 21 days, the body could come under the spirit's control. What happens in Korea, who killed the gangster and whether the spirit eventually leaves Kanakaraju's body form the central questions of the story.

Analysis: Varun Tej has often chosen films with different concepts and story-driven elements. In 'Korean Kanakaraju', the combination of a Korean spirit and a 21-day deadline provides an interesting premise for a horror-comedy.

According to this reviewer's assessment, the film works better in its comedy portions than in its overall storytelling. The scenes featuring Varun Tej and Satya, particularly after the spirit enters the protagonist's body, provide several entertaining moments.

The first half offers a number of comic sequences, while the second half relies more heavily on the story and its twists. Some of the developments may appear predictable, and the climax and emotional portions may not have the same impact as the comedy scenes.

Varun Tej appears in a rugged look in the early portions of the film and later adopts a different appearance after the story moves to Korea. His performance and comic timing, particularly in combination with Satya, are among the notable aspects of the movie.

Satya provides strong comic support, while Rithika Nayak has a comparatively limited role. Sunil, Vamsi and several other supporting actors have comparatively smaller parts. Muralidhar Goud contributes to the film's comic portions within the scope of his character.

Thaman's music and background score may appeal differently to individual viewers and form part of the overall presentation of the film.

Verdict: 'Korean Kanakaraju' combines horror, comedy and a Korea-based storyline. Based on this reviewer's assessment, the film's comedy and performances, particularly those of Varun Tej and Satya, are its stronger elements, while the story and execution may not appeal equally to every viewer.
