Ludhiana, September 10, 2026: Traffic movement in Ludhiana was severely affected after a bandh called in protest against the alleged desecration of a Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue led to a major road blockade at Jalandhar Bypass.

Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Jalandhar Bypass Chowk, bringing traffic on National Highway-44 to a halt for several hours. Vehicles were seen stuck in long queues as commuters faced delays while travelling through one of the city’s key routes.

The disruption also affected traffic around the Jagraon Bridge and elevated highway, with protesters blocking entry points at different locations. Police arranged diversions to keep traffic moving, while emergency vehicles, including ambulances and school vans, were allowed to pass.

According to local reports, the main highway remained affected for around five and a half hours, leaving commuters facing considerable inconvenience, particularly during the daytime heat.

The protest followed an incident involving the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue at Jalandhar Bypass. Police have registered a case and an investigation is underway. Protesters have demanded action against those responsible.

The incident resulted in significant disruption to daily movement across the city, with authorities working to manage traffic through alternate routes.
