The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has inspected 1,252 paying guest (PG) buildings across Delhi following the recent building collapse in Satya Niketan, as part of an intensified safety assessment drive.

The inspections were carried out between September 7 and 9. Of the buildings surveyed, 1,201 were found to be visibly safe, while 39 buildings required minor repairs and nine were found to need major repairs. Three buildings were declared dangerous, with demolition of one of them already underway.

The civic body has also identified 26 framed structures above G+4 floors for close monitoring, citing concerns over their vulnerability.

The inspections are set to continue as the MCD steps up its crackdown on unauthorised construction, misuse of residential properties and structurally unsafe buildings.

Following the Satya Niketan tragedy, the civic body has also undertaken large-scale demolition and sealing operations. On September 8, officials demolished 35 buildings across 12 MCD zones and carried out nine sealing actions.

The MCD said its wider enforcement drive has resulted in demolition action at 983 properties, sealing of 464 properties, and the issuance of 1,516 show-cause notices for unauthorised construction between June 1 and September 3, 2026. The civic body also issued 726 demolition orders during this period.

The latest inspections highlight growing concerns over the safety of PG accommodations, particularly in areas housing large numbers of students and young professionals. The Satya Niketan collapse has prompted authorities to step up structural checks and enforcement measures across Delhi.
