Minor Short Circuit at Lalbaugcha Raja Pandal Briefly Alarms Devotees in Mumbai

A minor short circuit was reported at the Lalbaugcha Raja pandal in Mumbai on Sunday, September 20, briefly alarming devotees gathered at the crowded venue during the ongoing Ganeshotsav celebrations.

According to reports, the incident occurred in a feeder pillar, an electrical distribution cabinet used to house equipment such as circuit breakers, fuses and switches. Sparks were seen emerging from the electrical installation, with visuals showing a brief blaze near decorations inside the pandal area.

The incident occurred while a large number of devotees were present for Ganesh darshan. Police and security personnel were seen responding to the situation and managing the crowd. The electrical issue was brought under control promptly, and no injuries were reported in connection with the Lalbaugcha Raja pandal incident.

Separate Electrocution Incident in Lalbaug Area

The short circuit was reported on the same day as a separate and more serious electrocution incident near the Mahaganpati Utsav Mandal in Kalachowki, in the Lalbaug area of Mumbai.

In that incident, an eight-year-old girl and a woman died after suffering electric shocks near a temporary drinking water and cold-drink stall close to the pandal entrance. Four other people were reported injured and taken to hospitals. Officials said the incident occurred in the early hours of September 20, when the area was crowded with devotees.

Authorities inspected the site and examined the temporary electrical installation. Police were investigating the circumstances that led to the electrocution and the condition of the electrical arrangements.

Electrical Safety Draws Attention

The two separate incidents have brought renewed attention to electrical safety at crowded Ganesh festival venues, where temporary electrical installations, decorations and large gatherings operate together.

While the Lalbaugcha Raja pandal short circuit was brought under control without reported injuries, the separate Kalachowki electrocution incident resulted in two deaths and injuries to other people. The ongoing investigations are expected to establish the specific causes and any safety-related lapses involved in the incidents.
