IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall Across Several States as Active Monsoon Continues

New Delhi: The southwest monsoon continues to affect several parts of India, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple states over the coming days. Authorities have warned that the prolonged spell of rain could lead to flooding, landslides, waterlogging, and travel disruptions in vulnerable areas.

According to the IMD, widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over parts of the Himalayan region, Northeast India, the Western Ghats, and several central and eastern states. Residents in landslide-prone and flood-prone areas have been advised to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are among the states facing an increased risk of landslides due to saturated soil conditions. Low-lying urban areas in several regions may also experience waterlogging, traffic congestion, and disruptions to road and rail transport. Flash floods remain a concern in districts receiving continuous heavy rainfall.

The weather department has urged tourists and commuters to monitor official weather updates before travelling. People living near rivers, hilly slopes, and flood-prone locations have also been advised to follow instructions issued by local authorities and disaster management agencies.

Officials have cautioned that persistent rainfall may affect standing crops, disrupt essential services, and reduce visibility on roads, increasing the risk of accidents. Emergency response teams in several states remain on alert to respond to weather-related incidents.

With the active monsoon phase expected to continue, citizens are encouraged to stay updated through official IMD weather bulletins and exercise caution while travelling or venturing outdoors during periods of heavy rain.
