Mumbai Airport Customs officials have detected more than 130 smuggling cases over the past one month, resulting in the arrest of 55 people and the seizure of gold, drugs, foreign currency, diamonds and commercial goods.

According to Customs officials, 77 gold-smuggling cases were registered during the period. Authorities seized 19.65 kg of gold valued at around ₹26 crore, with 13 people arrested in connection with these cases.

The Customs department also reported a major seizure of 149 kg of hydroponic weed, estimated to be worth around ₹52 crore. A total of 37 people were arrested in cases related to the alleged smuggling of the drug.

In addition, officials seized foreign currencies worth ₹3.37 crore in nine cases, including US dollars, euros, UAE dirhams, Kuwaiti dinars and Omani riyals. Three people were arrested in these cases.

Customs officials also registered 14 cases involving commercial goods, including iPhones and refurbished laptops, valued at approximately ₹1.18 crore. Two diamond-smuggling cases were also detected, leading to the seizure of diamonds worth around ₹1.19 crore and the arrest of two people.

Officials said intensified enforcement at Mumbai airport is aimed at preventing the illegal movement of gold, narcotic drugs, foreign currency and other prohibited or dutiable goods, while protecting government revenue and strengthening border enforcement.
