Mumbai's water reserves witnessed a slight decline on Friday morning despite continued rainfall across the catchment areas of the city's seven lakes.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the reservoirs currently hold 12,80,931 million litres of usable water, accounting for 88.50% of their total live storage capacity.

The latest figures indicate a marginal drop from 88.76% recorded on Thursday, reflecting a decrease of 0.26 percentage points over the past 24 hours. Officials, however, said the overall water stock remains healthy and sufficient for the city's needs.

Among the seven reservoirs, Modak Sagar, Vihar, and Tulsi lakes are at 100% capacity, while Tansa is at 98.69%, Middle Vaitarna at 90.39%, Bhatsa at 86.21%, and Upper Vaitarna at 79.26%.

Rainfall continued across the catchment areas during the last 24 hours, with Upper Vaitarna receiving 31 mm, followed by Modak Sagar (12 mm), Middle Vaitarna (11 mm), Bhatsa (7 mm), Tulsi (6 mm), Vihar (4 mm), and Tansa (3 mm).

The BMC noted that Vihar and Tulsi lakes have been overflowing since July 7, while Tansa began overflowing on July 22 and Modak Sagar on July 23. These developments have helped maintain robust water reserves despite the recent marginal dip in storage levels.

With reservoir levels remaining close to 90% capacity, Mumbai's water supply situation continues to be stable. Civic authorities are expected to keep monitoring rainfall patterns and lake levels as the monsoon season progresses.
