In a major success in Tripura’s ongoing anti-narcotics drive, security agencies seized approximately 80,000 Yaba tablets, weighing around 8 kg and estimated to be worth nearly ₹3.2 crore, from a stone-loaded truck in the Jolaibari area of South Tripura.
Three persons were arrested in connection with the seizure, officials said.
Acting on a specific intelligence input, a joint team comprising personnel from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Baikhora Police Station and Jolaibari Police Outpost launched an operation to intercept the suspected drug consignment.
During the search, the team intercepted a stone-laden truck bearing registration number TR-05H-1813. A detailed inspection of the vehicle led to the recovery of a large quantity of Yaba tablets allegedly concealed among the stone chips.
According to officials, the recovered consignment contained approximately 80,000 tablets, with the estimated illicit market value placed at around ₹3.2 crore.
The three suspects were taken into custody from the spot and are being questioned as part of the investigation. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Probe Underway to Trace Supply Network
Following the seizure, investigators have launched a detailed probe to determine the origin of the narcotics, their intended destination and the wider network allegedly involved in transporting the consignment.
Investigators are also examining the route taken by the truck and how the narcotics were allegedly concealed within the stone consignment.
Authorities are probing whether the arrested individuals were acting independently or were connected to a larger organised drug-trafficking network. Further arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation progresses.
The seizure marks another significant operation against narcotics trafficking in Tripura and highlights the increasing coordination between state police and central agencies to disrupt the movement and distribution of illegal drugs in the Northeast.
