Police Martyrs Memorial Volleyball Tournament concludes in Poonch

Poonch, August 7, 2026: The Police Martyrs Memorial Volleyball Tournament, organised by District Police Poonch under the Civic Action Programme in collaboration with Shaheed Manjit Singh Memorial Club, Poonch, concluded today at Jallian, Mandi, with participation from local youth, sportspersons and community members.

The closing ceremony was attended by SSP Poonch, Sh. Shafqat Hussain, JKPS, who visited the venue and interacted with the participating teams and players. His presence encouraged the young sportspersons and highlighted the police department's efforts to promote sports, youth engagement and police-public interaction.

A total of 12 teams participated in the tournament, providing players with an opportunity to showcase their sporting talent, discipline, teamwork and competitive spirit. The tournament also served as a tribute to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

During the closing ceremony, trophies and mementos were presented to the winning and participating teams and players in recognition of their performance and participation. The players were appreciated for maintaining sportsmanship and healthy competition throughout the tournament.

Addressing the gathering, SSP Poonch appreciated the efforts of the organisers, participating teams, local residents, veteran sportspersons and Shaheed Manjit Singh Memorial Club for their cooperation in conducting the event.

He highlighted the importance of sports in promoting discipline, physical fitness, teamwork and leadership qualities among young people. He also encouraged youth to participate in sports and other constructive activities and stay away from drugs and other social problems.

SSP Poonch further stated that District Police Poonch would continue to organise youth-oriented initiatives under the Civic Action Programme to provide constructive opportunities for young people and strengthen interaction between the police and the public.

The closing ceremony was attended by DySP Headquarters Poonch, DySP DAR Poonch, SHO Police Station Mandi, SHO Police Station Loran, senior citizens, veteran sportspersons, members of the local community and sports enthusiasts.

Members of the local community appreciated the initiative and said that such events provide opportunities for young sporting talent and encourage community participation.

District Police Poonch reaffirmed its focus on promoting sports, encouraging youth participation, honouring police martyrs and undertaking community-oriented initiatives under the Civic Action Programme.
