Panchkula: Local residents of MDC Sector 5, Panchkula, organised a cleanliness drive at a neighbourhood park after tree-cutting work carried out by Municipal Corporation (MC) staff left branches and other debris scattered in the area.
According to residents, the MC staff had cut the trees but failed to remove the branches and waste material afterwards. The debris was left along the walking track, causing inconvenience to morning and evening walkers and effectively blocking part of the walking area.
Taking the matter into their own hands, local residents came together and cleaned the affected area, removing the tree-cutting waste and restoring the walking space for public use.
Residents appreciated the tree-cutting work where required but questioned the failure to clear the site after completion. They appealed to the Municipal Corporation to ensure that such work is followed by proper removal of debris so that residents are not inconvenienced.
The residents said that public parks are meant to provide a clean and safe environment for walking, exercise and recreation, particularly for senior citizens and children. They urged the civic authorities to pay greater attention to the regular maintenance and cleanliness of parks in the area.
The cleanliness drive demonstrated the residents’ spirit of community participation and their commitment to keeping MDC Sector 5 Panchkula clean, green and accessible.
