TVK Functionary Hacked to Death in Chennai; Five Held

A Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary was hacked to death in Chennai, triggering concern in the area. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Kannan, was reportedly attacked by a group of men in Besant Nagar on Saturday night.

According to police, Kannan was chased by the attackers who arrived on motorcycles before assaulting him with weapons. He sustained severe injuries and died at the scene. CCTV footage from the area is being examined as part of the investigation.

Police have arrested five people in connection with the murder. Investigators are looking into a possible old enmity as the motive behind the attack. Police are also examining whether the incident could be linked to a murder that took place in 2009.
