Young Para Swimmer from Chennai Completes Palk Strait Swim

A 12-year-old para swimmer from Chennai, Master Puviatral Periyarselvan, completed a long-distance swim across the Palk Strait on October 4, 2025, marking a notable achievement in para-sports.

According to available information, the swimmer, who has a locomotor disability affecting his right leg, covered an approximate distance of 30 kilometers from Thalaimannar to Dhanushkodi. The swim required navigating open sea conditions, demonstrating endurance and preparation.

The effort has been recognized by the World Book of Records, which awarded a certification acknowledging the achievement. Organisers and supporters described the swim as a significant milestone in para-swimming.

Observers note that such accomplishments highlight the growing participation of athletes with disabilities in endurance sports. The achievement has drawn attention to the importance of training, support systems, and opportunities for para-athletes.
