Trump says ‘not satisfied’ with new Iran proposal amid stalled talks

Washington | May 1, 2026:
US President Donald Trump said he is “not satisfied” with a new proposal from Iran as diplomatic efforts to resolve ongoing tensions remain stalled despite a temporary ceasefire.

According to reports from Iran’s state news agency, the proposal was delivered to mediator Pakistan, although its contents have not been publicly disclosed. Speaking to reporters, Trump cited internal disagreements within Iran’s leadership as a key reason for the lack of progress.

He also indicated that while military options exist, he would prefer a diplomatic resolution, emphasizing the importance of avoiding further escalation.

The conflict, which escalated earlier this year following military strikes, has remained largely paused since early April, with limited progress in direct negotiations. While no major exchange of fire has been reported in recent weeks, tensions continue across the region.

Meanwhile, developments in the Middle East remain complex. Reports indicate continued military activity in parts of Lebanon, despite ceasefire arrangements involving groups such as Hezbollah.

The situation has also impacted global markets. Disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz — a critical route for global energy supplies — have contributed to volatility in oil prices.

On the diplomatic front, international stakeholders, including European officials, are engaged in efforts to ease tensions and restore stability in the region.

At the same time, the United States has approved additional defense support to regional allies, reflecting ongoing security concerns.

Experts note that while the ceasefire has reduced immediate conflict, the broader geopolitical situation remains uncertain, with both diplomatic and military pathways still under consideration.
