The Union government confirmed the safety of the crew members, who were aboard the Guinea-Bissau-flagged vessel when smoke was seen emanating from the ship near the port of Shinas on Thursday.

This incident unfolds just a day after a tragic event where three Indian seafarers lost their lives due to a U.S. military strike on the commercial tanker, Settebello, also off the coast of Oman. Reports indicate that twenty-one other crew members were rescued from the vessel.
In response to the military strike, the Indian government summoned the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, Jason Meeks, to formally express its concerns and register a protest. The U.S. Central Command stated that the Settebello was targeted because it allegedly violated an American blockade restricting maritime traffic associated with Iran, with allegations suggesting it was attempting to transport oil from the Islamic Republic.
The situation escalated further when another tanker, Marivex, which transported 24 Indian seafarers, was also targeted by the U.S. military for similar reasons regarding blockade violations. Thankfully, all crew members aboard Marivex were safely rescued.
