Questions Raised Over Valuation of Ornaments Donated to Anjanadri Temple

Questions have emerged regarding the valuation and composition of ornaments donated to Anjanadri Temple in Karnataka’s Koppal district after reports suggested discrepancies in the gold content of the items.

According to media reports, a businessman had donated ceremonial ornaments including a crown, mace, umbrella and prabhavali for worship at the temple, which is traditionally associated with Lord Hanuman. Earlier reports had estimated the value of the donation at around ₹2.5 crore.

However, subsequent examinations reportedly raised concerns regarding the actual quantity of gold used in the ornaments. Some preliminary assessments cited in media reports suggested that the items may contain a limited amount of gold plating over other materials. Independent verification of these findings was not immediately available.

The reports triggered discussions among devotees and on social media, with several people demanding greater transparency in the verification and valuation process for high-value religious donations.

Observers have also questioned whether detailed technical checks were conducted before the donation’s reported value was publicly announced.

Temple authorities had not issued a detailed official clarification on the matter at the time of publication. No official allegation of fraud or criminal wrongdoing had been publicly confirmed.

The development has led to calls from some devotees and local groups for a formal review of donation assessment procedures at major religious institutions.
