Poacher and wildlife Body Parts Trader Arrested in Assam :

On 18 April, the Eastern Range, Gamiri and Crime Investigation Range of Biswanath Wildlife Division, Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve, carried out a joint operation. Acting on a secret intelligence input, the operation team successfully apprehended a criminal involved in the illegal trade of Royal Bengal Tiger body parts.
The accused has been identified as Ratnakanta Pegu, a resident of Aathaishsharia village under Gobpur Police Station in Biswanath district, according to the Forest Department. He was implicated in the earlier case of illegal tiger body part trade (Offence No. ER/02-2025) and had been absconding since November last year.
As per information from the Biswanath Wildlife Division, the arrested accused was also involved in multiple rhino poaching incidents in Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve between 2019 and 2024.
At present, the authorities of Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve are conducting interrogation and further investigation to gather more details about the case.
