BARMER: Rajasthan’s Barmer district has recorded some of the highest temperatures in the state as an intense heatwave continues to affect several regions. The extreme weather conditions have made outdoor activities difficult, with the Meteorological Department advising people to avoid direct exposure during peak afternoon hours.
Despite the warnings, many daily wage labourers, street vendors, construction workers and delivery personnel continue to work outdoors due to economic compulsions. For many workers dependent on daily earnings, remaining indoors during the heatwave is not considered financially viable.
Across different parts of the district, workers were seen covering their faces with cloth, taking short breaks in shaded areas and relying on water, buttermilk and other drinks to cope with the heat.
The ongoing conditions have once again highlighted the challenges faced by outdoor workers during extreme weather events. Local residents and labour groups have suggested measures such as flexible work timings, access to drinking water and temporary cooling shelters to reduce heat-related risks.
Officials have continued to issue advisories urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary travel during peak heat hours and seek medical assistance in case of symptoms related to heat exhaustion or heatstroke.
