BJP Leader Allegedly Assaults Teacher Over Urdu Classes in Telangana: Two FIRs Filed

A shocking incident unfolded in Telangana’s Nizamabad district as a principal of a private school was reportedly assaulted by a group led by a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The attack was allegedly triggered by claims that the principal was conducting unauthorized Urdu classes for a group of 25 students. The incident has raised eyebrows about the increasing scrutiny and tensions surrounding educational practices in the region.

The confrontation occurred on Saturday at Bharat Chandra High School located in Perkit village, within the Armur mandal. According to reports, the BJP’s Armur town chief, Mandula Balu, along with several party workers, stormed the school premises and assaulted the principal, Ameer Khan, in front of officers from the Telangana Police who were present during the assault. This blatant act of aggression has not only shocked the local community but also sparked outrage among various civil rights groups.

In the aftermath of the incident, police registered two first information reports (FIRs). The first FIR was lodged against Mandula Balu and his associates for alleged trespassing and assault. In a twist of events, the second FIR was filed against the school’s principal, the administrative official Mallaiah, and Urdu teacher Huma Hania on allegations of conducting unauthorized classes. However, no arrests have been made as authorities await a report from a mandal education official on the matter.

This incident is particularly troubling given that Urdu is recognized as the second official language in Telangana. The hostility towards the teaching of Urdu raises critical questions about the freedom of education and the rights of minority communities in the state. Observers have noted that such actions could undermine the educational environment, particularly for students from linguistic minority backgrounds.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the attack was orchestrated in a manner that highlights the growing political influence of parties like the BJP in local educational matters. While many are calling for immediate action against the perpetrators, the police’s delay in making arrests only adds to the tension. Activists are urging for a more robust defense of educational rights to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
