Bokakhat Civil Hospital Benefits Kidney Patients through Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Centre: 1,000 Dialysis Sessions in Eight Months
Despite various shortages and complaints, the Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Centre at Bokakhat’s Swahid Kamala Miri Civil Hospital has been functioning smoothly. Under the leadership of hospital superintendent Dr. Hemanta Bora, senior dialysis technician Md. Sikandar serves as the centre’s director. Notably, this dialysis centre is one among 64 centres across Assam’s 33 districts. Out of the total 116 dialysis machines installed statewide, the Bokakhat centre operates with three machines.
Many kidney patients from Bokakhat Co-district have benefited from free dialysis services here. Under Md. Sikandar’s management, a team of four staff members provides skilled care to patients. Since its formal inauguration last August, the centre has already conducted dialysis for around 1,000 patients suffering from kidney disease, according to Sikandar.
Patients expressed that the establishment of this centre in Bokakhat has been a great relief for those with serious kidney conditions. “Otherwise, we would have had to travel elsewhere,” one patient remarked. Sikandar also noted that due to the quality of services, patients from outside Bokakhat are also coming to the Swahid Kamala Miri Civil Hospital’s dialysis centre.
