Congress Raises Objections Over Rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha Nominatio
New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Wednesday addressed the media after a party delegation met the Election Commission regarding the rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination from Madhya Pradesh.
Speaking to reporters, Singhvi said the Congress disagrees with the Returning Officer’s decision and has requested the Election Commission to review the matter. According to him, the rejection was linked to issues concerning disclosure requirements in the nomination papers.
Singhvi stated that, in the party’s view, no criminal case requiring disclosure existed against Natarajan. He argued that the matter referred to by election authorities involved a complaint and that the legal status of the proceedings should be considered while assessing nomination requirements.
The Congress has submitted a representation to the Election Commission seeking reconsideration of the decision. Party leaders have alleged that the rejection could affect their representation in the Rajya Sabha elections.
Meenakshi Natarajan also expressed her disagreement with the decision and called for a review of the nomination process.
The Election Commission has not yet publicly responded to the Congress representation. The matter is expected to remain under discussion as the Rajya Sabha election process continues.
