Gujarat May Emerge as Major AI Infrastructure Hub Following Reported Reliance-Meta Data Centre Plan

Jamnagar, Gujarat: Gujarat could emerge as a significant artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure hub following reports of a planned collaboration between Reliance Industries and Meta to develop a large AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar.

According to media reports, the proposed facility is expected to support growing AI computing requirements and strengthen India’s digital infrastructure capabilities. The project is reportedly being planned as one of the country’s major AI-focused data centre developments.

Reports indicate that the proposed facility may have a capacity of approximately 168 megawatts. Reliance Industries is expected to oversee aspects of the project’s development and operations, while Jamnagar has reportedly been identified as a suitable location due to its industrial infrastructure and connectivity.

The project is also expected to incorporate sustainability measures, including the use of renewable energy and desalinated seawater for cooling operations, according to reports.

Media reports further state that Meta and Reliance view the initiative as an important step in expanding AI-related infrastructure in India. Reports also indicate that renewable energy agreements involving other companies may support the project’s power requirements.

The reported collaboration builds on previous business ties between Reliance and Meta, including Meta’s investment in Jio Platforms in 2020 and subsequent digital initiatives.

Industry observers believe that, if implemented as reported, the project could contribute to investment, employment generation, and the expansion of AI infrastructure in Gujarat and India.
