ED Raids Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora’s Premises in Foreign Exchange Investigation

ED Raids Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora's Premises in Foreign Exchange Investigation

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated a significant investigation into Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora, conducting searches at multiple locations linked to him over allegations of foreign exchange violations. This operation unfolded across 13 sites, including major cities such as Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar, highlighting the agency’s intensified scrutiny under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

This latest development comes just two days after the ED executed a similar raid at the residence of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal, along with several properties associated with him in Punjab and Haryana. These actions have raised eyebrows within the party, particularly as Mittal was newly appointed as the deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, succeeding Raghav Chadha.

According to reports, the ED’s operation at Arora’s properties commenced early Friday morning, around 6:30 AM, while the minister was overseas promoting the Punjab government’s ‘Invest Punjab’ initiative aimed at attracting foreign investment. The investigation is believed to be linked to Hampton Sky Realty Limited, a company that Arora has stakes in and which focuses on real estate and infrastructure projects.

Adding another layer to the situation, Arora’s son is identified as the managing director of this company, raising further questions about potential conflicts of interest and financial dealings. In a post on social media, Arora expressed his commitment to fully cooperate with the investigations, insisting on his transparency and willingness to clarify any misunderstandings surrounding his business activities.

The timing of these raids has sparked debates regarding political motivations behind them, especially within the context of Punjab’s current political landscape. As the AAP strengthens its foothold in Punjab, following its significant victory in the state elections, these developments could pose challenges for the party as it grapples with scrutiny from enforcement agencies.

Observers suggest that the ED’s actions may reflect broader efforts to investigate alleged corruption and financial mismanagement within political circles, a common narrative in Indian politics. As the situation develops, all eyes will be on how the AAP responds and whether these investigations will impact its political standing in Punjab.
