Explosions Rock Punjab: Security Concerns Rise After Incidents Near Military Bases

In a worrying development, Punjab witnessed two separate low-intensity explosions in Jalandhar and Amritsar late Tuesday night, raising alarms about security in the region. The incidents occurred in quick succession, prompting immediate investigations by local authorities.

The first explosion took place around 8 PM near the Border Security Force’s Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar. Eyewitnesses reported a loud sound followed by flames engulfing a parked scooter. Initial assessments by unidentified police officials have indicated that it remains uncertain whether the fire was caused by an explosion or an accidental ignition.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur stated that while early indications suggest the vehicle caught fire, the investigation is ongoing. The authorities are keen to ascertain the cause to rule out any potential security threats.

Just a couple of hours later, around 10:50 PM, another explosion was reported near the Khasa cantonment in Amritsar. Responding to the loud noise, police and army personnel quickly reached the scene. Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police Sohail Qasim Mir revealed that a damaged tin sheet attached to the cantonment’s boundary wall was discovered, indicating an object might have been thrown, resulting in the small explosion.

Fortunately, there were no casualties or significant damage reported in either incident, but the events have sparked concerns regarding safety around military establishments in the state. Superintendent of Police Aditya S Warrier mentioned that bomb disposal and forensic teams have been deployed to investigate further.

Punjab has long been a sensitive area due to its historical context and proximity to the border with Pakistan, making any incident near military sites particularly concerning. Authorities are on high alert, and residents are urged to remain vigilant. As the investigations unfold, the state government is expected to enhance security measures around sensitive installations to mitigate potential threats and ensure the safety of its residents.
