Two Arrested in Hyderabad for Alleged Use of Fake Number Plate

Hyderabad:

Police in Hyderabad’s Kachiguda area have arrested two individuals in connection with an alleged fake number plate case. The accused have been identified as Sheikh Abbu Baba and Sheikh Rehan.

According to police officials, the accused allegedly tampered with the registration number of a Hero Glamour by replacing it with the number of another active vehicle. The move was reportedly intended to evade traffic penalties.

Authorities said the altered number plate led to traffic violations being incorrectly recorded against another vehicle owner. The discrepancy was detected through Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, which flagged unusual activity linked to the registration number.

Following the investigation, a case was registered under FIR No. 199/2026. The accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.

Police stated that further investigation is ongoing. Officials also reiterated that misuse or tampering of vehicle registration plates is a punishable offense under the law.
