In an exciting recognition of talent, Indian cartoonist Charbak Dipta, renowned illustrator Anand RK, and journalist Suparna Sharma have received nominations for the prestigious 2026 Eisner Awards. These awards, often referred to as the ‘Oscars of Comics,’ celebrate exceptional achievements in the comic book industry, and this year, the trio has been acknowledged for their outstanding contributions in distinctive categories.

Charbak Dipta’s nominated work, The World of Lublu, introduces readers to Lublu, an absent-minded philosopher who embarks on a whimsical journey through a surreal Indian town. Accompanied by his friend Kim, Lublu navigates encounters with an old companion and an eccentric musician, ultimately prompting reflections on the nature of reality itself. This unique narrative showcases Dipta’s ability to intertwine philosophical musings with imaginative storytelling, making it a standout entry in the Best Digital Comic category.

On the other hand, Anand RK and Suparna Sharma have collaborated with reporter Natalie Obiko Pearson on the illustrated piece titled trAPPed. This gripping work tells the story of a neurologist in India who finds herself trapped in a digital world, held captive by her smartphone. The poignant exploration of modern technology’s impact on our lives not only garnered attention at the Eisner Awards but also won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize in Illustrated Reporting and Commentary, highlighting its profound relevance.

Anand RK is no stranger to acclaim, having previously won the Eisner Award in 2021 for his artistic contributions to the graphic novel Blue in Green. His collaboration with colourist John Pearson was celebrated for its innovative use of multimedia in storytelling. The artist’s continued recognition at the Eisner Awards underscores the growing prominence of Indian creators in the global comics arena.

This year, the Eisner Awards will honor works across 32 diverse categories, showcasing a vibrant array of comics and graphic novels from over 75 publishers worldwide. The nominations reflect the depth of creativity in the industry, with more than 170 print and online titles recognized. Voting for the awards is currently underway, allowing industry professionals the opportunity to cast their votes online, further engaging the community in the celebration of comic artistry.

The recognition of Indian artists like Dipta, Anand RK, and Sharma at the Eisner Awards is a testament to the rich storytelling tradition in India and the potential of comics as a medium for powerful narratives.
