MADANAPALLE, ANDHRA PRADESH — The wholesale tomato market in Madanapalle, located in Andhra Pradesh’s Annamayya district, is witnessing a rise in prices amid reported supply constraints in several northern and central Indian states.
According to traders and market participants, higher temperatures in parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and other regions have affected tomato production, leading to increased demand for supplies from southern markets, including Madanapalle and neighboring Chintamani.
Market sources said that by mid-June 2026, premium-quality tomatoes were being traded at approximately ₹32 to ₹39 per kilogram, compared with prices below ₹10 per kilogram reported earlier this year. The increase has provided relief to many farmers who had faced lower returns during previous months.
Local growers and traders stated that weather conditions in the Madanapalle region have remained comparatively favorable, helping sustain production levels. Fresh arrivals from nearby mandals, including Valmikipuram and Gurramkonda, continue to reach the market regularly.
Horticulture officials and market observers indicated that demand is expected to remain steady in the near term. They noted that market prices may continue to benefit from strong demand if supply constraints persist in other producing regions.
