Mauritius Explores Expanded Trade Engagement During SCO Trade Council Chairman’s Visit

Port Louis, Mauritius:

Mauritius witnessed a series of high-level engagements following the visit of A. V. Srinivasan, Chairman of the SCO Trade Council, aimed at strengthening cross-regional economic cooperation.

According to officials, the visit focused on exploring opportunities for greater integration between Mauritius and emerging trade frameworks linked to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

During the visit, meetings were held with representatives from key institutions, including the State Trading Corporation, the Economic Development Board, Landscope Mauritius, and the Ministry of Tertiary Education. Discussions covered sectors such as infrastructure, logistics, financial services, and education, along with emerging areas like digital innovation and renewable energy.

Officials noted that Mauritius’ strategic position in the Indian Ocean region provides potential for expanding trade and investment linkages, particularly with African and Eurasian markets.

Speaking during the visit, Srinivasan emphasized the importance of stronger connections between regional economic systems to support investment and sustainable growth. Asif Iqbal, President of the SCO Trade Council, also highlighted the role of institutional collaboration in strengthening long-term trade frameworks.

The engagements are seen as part of broader efforts to enhance economic cooperation and diversify trade partnerships across regions.
