Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case Investigation Continues

Shillong, May 2026:

The investigation into the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case is continuing as police and legal authorities examine evidence related to the death of a man who had travelled to the state with his wife following their marriage.

According to investigators, the couple had visited Meghalaya as part of a honeymoon trip. Concern arose after the husband was reported missing during the visit. Search teams later recovered his body from a remote area, following which police initiated a criminal investigation.

Officials stated that initial inquiries led investigators to examine travel records, communication history, digital evidence, and statements from multiple individuals connected to the case.

Police have detained several persons, including the victim’s wife, Sonam, in connection with the investigation. Authorities have alleged that the incident may have involved prior planning; however, the matter remains under investigation and the allegations are yet to be proven in court.

The accused persons have denied wrongdoing, and legal proceedings are ongoing.

The case has received widespread national attention due to the circumstances surrounding the incident. Meghalaya authorities have stated that the crime should be treated as an isolated case and not associated with the overall safety image of the state.

Meanwhile, court proceedings related to custody and bail applications are continuing. The prosecution has opposed bail requests, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing investigation, while the defence has argued for legal relief in accordance with due process.

Officials have stated that the investigation is being conducted carefully and that all evidence will be examined as part of the judicial process.

Authorities have also appealed to the public and media to avoid speculation and allow the investigation and court proceedings to continue fairly.
