Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a high-level bilateral meeting on Monday, focusing on strengthening strategic cooperation across defence, energy, trade, and regional security. The visit comes at a crucial time as both nations look to reinforce long-standing ties amid shifting global geopolitics.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed ongoing defence projects, including joint production initiatives and technology transfer programmes. Officials indicated that discussions also covered new proposals aimed at enhancing India’s military capabilities while expanding industrial collaboration between both sides.
Energy cooperation remained another major pillar of the talks. India, one of the world’s fastest-growing energy markets, is seeking long-term stability in crude supply, while Russia aims to deepen its presence in the South Asian energy sector through investments in oil, gas, and nuclear energy projects. An expansion of energy trade corridors and new agreements in the petroleum sector were key points of deliberation.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues, including stability in the Indo-Pacific region, counterterrorism efforts, and strengthening multilateral platforms such as BRICS and the SCO. Both sides reiterated their commitment to global peace and emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving international conflicts.
The meeting is expected to pave the way for fresh announcements in defence manufacturing, increased energy trade, and broader economic partnerships. With this visit, India and Russia signal their intention to elevate their decades-old strategic partnership to a new level, promising deeper cooperation in the years ahead.
