AHMEDABAD POLICE INVOKE AMENDED GUJCOCA FOR FIRST TIME, TARGET FATEHWADI-JUHAPURA'S 'BABU KALIYA GANG'

Ahmedabad Police Invoke GUJCTOC Against Three Alleged Members of Babu Kaliya Gang

Ahmedabad, September 15, 2026: Ahmedabad Police have invoked provisions of the amended Gujarat Control of Organised Crime Act (GUJCTOC) against three alleged members of the “Babu Kaliya Gang” in connection with a case being investigated by the Vejalpur Police and Zone 7 authorities.

Police Allege Organised Criminal Activities

According to investigators, the group is allegedly linked to cases involving illegal arms, attempted murder, assault, narcotics-related offences and intimidation. The investigation initially began under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act before police sought to add organised-crime provisions.

Police records cited in the case indicate that members of the group have been named in several criminal cases registered at Vejalpur, Vatva, Danilimda and Crime Branch police stations. Mujahid Ali, also known as Babu Kaliya, has separately been named in multiple cases, including Arms Act and murder cases, according to police records.

Three Accused Named in GUJCTOC Case

The GUJCTOC case names Mujahid Ali alias Babu Kaliya (33), Wasim alias Demo Sheikh (26), and Rozan Khan alias Shezan Pathan (23). Police said Mujahid and Wasim are in judicial custody, while Rozan Khan is yet to be apprehended.

Police also stated that preventive action, including proceedings under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA), had previously been taken against some members of the group.

GUJCTOC Provisions Added During Investigation

According to the case timeline, Mujahid and Wasim were taken into custody on July 25 and produced before a magistrate the following day. They were subsequently sent to judicial custody.

On August 22, Zone 7 Police sought approval to invoke GUJCTOC provisions against the accused. The court permitted the additional provisions on August 28. Investigators later sought further custodial interrogation, and the Special Court granted custody of Mujahid until 5 pm on September 16.

Further Investigation Underway

Investigators are examining the allegations and the previous criminal cases linked to the accused as part of the GUJCTOC proceedings. The use of the amended provisions in this case could also provide an indication of how the revised organised-crime framework is applied in similar investigations.

The allegations mentioned in the case remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings, and the accused are entitled to due process under law.
