The Time Has Come For Me To Tell My Own Life Story – Senior Congress Leader Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi, October 28: Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, has revealed that she was strongly opposed to her husband, Rajiv Gandhi, becoming Prime Minister. In a video shared on social media ahead of the release of her memoir, Belonging: A Journey of Love, she said that several accounts of her life published over the years were inaccurate, with some containing invented details or exaggerations.

Sonia Gandhi said she felt it was time to share her own story and present her personal experiences in her own words. She acknowledged that the memoir could influence readers' perceptions of her, with some potentially changing their views positively and others negatively. She added that differing reactions are a natural part of public life.

Rajiv Gandhi became Prime Minister in 1984 following the assassination of his mother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He was assassinated in 1991 while campaigning for the general elections.

Sonia Gandhi's 544-page memoir, Belonging: A Journey of Love, is scheduled for worldwide release on November 10, 2026. The book is expected to offer readers a personal account of her life, family and experiences in public life.
