New Ashok Nagar Family Seeks MCD Action Over Alleged Unauthorised Construction

New Delhi, September 7, 2026: A family in New Ashok Nagar has approached the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), seeking urgent intervention over alleged unauthorised construction at adjoining property E-470. The family has raised concerns regarding the alleged reduction of open space, obstruction of natural light and ventilation, structural and public-safety issues, and alleged intimidation.

According to a complaint submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, MCD East Delhi Zone, the open space between adjoining properties E-477 and E-470, which was approximately 10 feet as per documents available with the complainant, has allegedly been reduced to as little as 3.5 feet at certain portions following construction at E-470. The complainant has requested MCD to physically measure and verify the gap at the site.

The complaint further alleges that approximately five floors, excluding stilt parking, have been raised or are being raised at E-470. The complainant has sought verification of the sanctioned building plan, applicable bye-laws, setbacks, floor count, permissions and statutory clearances.

The family has stated that the alleged reduction in open space has affected natural light, air circulation and ventilation, while also raising concerns relating to sanitation, fire safety, access and the safety of occupants of both properties.

The complaint also alleges that when the complainant and his wife, Mrs. Sandhya Jasuja Khosla, raised objections to the construction, they were allegedly intimidated and threatened with dire consequences. The family has requested that the alleged threats be brought to the notice of the concerned police authorities.

Sandhya Jasuja Khosla said: “This is no longer just a dispute between two neighbours. The alleged reduction of the open space from around 10 feet to as little as 3.5 feet has affected our light, ventilation and access, while the reported multi-storey construction raises serious questions about structural and fire safety. We are also deeply concerned about the alleged threats made when we objected. We are simply seeking an impartial MCD inspection, proper measurement and verification of the sanctioned plan so that the safety of everyone living in these adjoining buildings is protected.”

The complaint states that E-477 is occupied by family members as well as tenants, including college students. The family has expressed concern that any mishap could potentially affect occupants and neighbouring properties.

The family has requested MCD to conduct an urgent on-site inspection, physically measure the inter-building gap, verify the sanctioned building plan and applicable building bye-laws, and examine the number of floors, setbacks, projections and coverage.

The complainant has also requested verification of whether the requisite permissions, completion or occupancy certificate, structural safety certificate and other statutory clearances have been obtained.

The complaint was submitted to the MCD on September 5, 2026. The family has requested appropriate statutory action following verification and inspection by the concerned authorities.
