India Set to Get First Approved Dengue Vaccine, QDENGA Expected in Private Market in 2027

India is set to get its first approved dengue vaccine, QDENGA, with the vaccine anticipated to become available in the private market during the first half of 2027, subject to applicable regulatory and quality processes.

On September 18, 2026, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories announced an exclusive agreement with Japan-based Takeda Pharmaceutical Company to promote and distribute QDENGA across India’s private market for paediatric and adult vaccination.

The development follows the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) granting marketing authorisation for QDENGA in July 2026. The vaccine was approved for people aged 4 to 60 years, making it the first dengue vaccine approved for use in India.

QDENGA is a tetravalent dengue vaccine designed to provide protection against the four dengue virus serotypes. It is administered in a two-dose schedule, with the doses given three months apart. Prior dengue infection screening is not required before vaccination, according to reports.

The vaccine is expected to be introduced in India in the first half of 2027, subject to completion of applicable regulatory and quality processes. The price of the vaccine has not yet been announced.

The planned arrival of QDENGA could add another potential tool to India’s dengue prevention efforts. Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection that can cause high fever, severe body pain and, in some cases, serious complications.

However, vaccination is expected to complement existing dengue-control measures rather than replace them. Preventing mosquito breeding, avoiding mosquito bites and maintaining effective public-health surveillance will continue to be important in reducing dengue transmission.

The agreement between Takeda and Dr. Reddy’s is focused on the private healthcare market. Further details about pricing and availability are expected as the planned launch approaches.

With regulatory approval already granted, the planned 2027 introduction of QDENGA represents a new development in India’s dengue-prevention efforts and could provide another potential option for protecting eligible children and adults against the disease.
