Drainage Channel Cleared at Jamunamarathur New Bus Stand Plastic Waste and Sewage Removed Ahead of Monsoon

Jamunamarathur: A long-pending drainage problem at the New Bus Stand in Jamunamarathur, located in Jawadhu Hills Union of Tiruvannamalai district, was addressed after local authorities undertook a special cleaning drive.
The drainage channel near the New Bus Stand had been severely blocked by plastic waste, bottles, non-biodegradable garbage and sewage. As a result, wastewater accumulated in the area, causing considerable inconvenience to residents, auto-rickshaw drivers, the general public and vegetable vendors.
The drainage channel behind the M.G.R. statue had reportedly accumulated garbage for several years. Plastic waste and other debris carried by rainwater had further worsened the blockage, preventing the smooth flow of wastewater.
Social activists and members of the public had repeatedly urged the local administration to take steps to clear the drainage channel and resolve the issue.
With the monsoon season approaching, local panchayat authorities took immediate action. Under the supervision of panchayat officials, sanitation workers and other workers were deployed to remove the accumulated plastic waste, garbage and sewage from the drainage channel.
The channel was thoroughly cleaned and necessary corrective work was carried out to facilitate the free flow of wastewater and rainwater.
Residents and social activists welcomed the prompt action taken by the local administration and expressed their appreciation. They also appealed to the public to avoid dumping plastic and other waste into drainage channels and to co-operate in maintaining cleanliness in the area.
