Transport Minister Announces Action on Engine Vans and Votvoti Vehicles

Some vehicle owners and small commercial vehicle operators have raised concerns about the costs involved in operating legally registered vehicles. They said they have to bear expenses such as vehicle tax, insurance, challans and loan instalments, along with other operational costs.

At the same time, the issue of engine vans, locally referred to as ‘Votvoti’, has come under scrutiny over their operation on public roads. Transport Minister Arjun Singh has stated that vehicles without the required registration, documents or valid permissions cannot be allowed to operate on roads.

The minister said that vehicles operating without the prescribed documents or permissions should face action under the applicable transport rules. The issue has also raised concerns among vehicle operators over the uniform enforcement of regulations.

Different claims have also emerged from Votvoti operators regarding their vehicles and documentation. However, whether a particular vehicle has valid documents and permissions can only be determined through official records and verification by the concerned authorities.

Transport Minister Arjun Singh has said that engine vans and Votvoti vehicles that do not meet the required legal and safety requirements will not be permitted to operate on public roads. The government has indicated that action will be taken in accordance with the applicable rules.

Vehicle owners and small commercial operators have also called for consistent enforcement of transport regulations. They argue that vehicles complying with tax, insurance and other statutory requirements should not face unequal treatment compared with vehicles operating without the necessary approvals.

Further action regarding engine vans and Votvoti vehicles will depend on inspections, official records and the applicable transport regulations. The concerned departments are expected to determine compliance on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis.
