Heavy Rainfall Alert: IMD Warns of Intense Showers Across Several States

New Delhi: Several parts of India are witnessing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moves towards the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coast. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for intense rainfall in several states, with the situation being closely monitored.

Telangana

Telangana is among the areas under significant rainfall warning. The IMD has forecast extremely heavy rainfall on September 23 and 24, followed by very heavy rainfall on September 25 and 26, along with thunderstorms and strong surface winds.

Andhra Pradesh

Coastal Andhra Pradesh is also under an intense rainfall warning. The IMD has forecast extremely heavy rainfall on September 23, followed by very heavy rainfall on September 24 and heavy rainfall on September 25. Thunderstorms and strong surface winds are also expected in parts of the region.

The IMD's coastal bulletin said the deep depression was located over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and was expected to move west-northwestwards, crossing the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coast near Kalingapatnam by the night of September 23.

Odisha

Odisha is also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall as the weather system approaches the coast. Isolated areas may experience extremely heavy rainfall, and authorities are monitoring the situation as the system moves inland.

Maharashtra

Vidarbha is under a heavy-rain warning for September 23, with very heavy rainfall forecast for September 24 and 25. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected during this period.

Other Regions

Rainfall activity is also expected in parts of West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and other eastern and central areas as the Bay of Bengal system influences weather conditions. The intensity and timing of rainfall can vary between districts.

Weather Advisory

Residents in areas under heavy-rain and thunderstorm warnings should follow the latest advisories issued by the IMD and local authorities. During thunderstorms, people should avoid exposed locations and take appropriate precautions against lightning, strong winds and waterlogging.
